Lewis C. Hill Jr. and Winifred Sue Jenkins Hill

Lewis was born on December 25, 1937, in Fort Worth, Texas, where he grew up and attended schools in the Fort Worth Independent School District. He graduated from Amon Carter-Riverside High School in 1957 and later proudly served in the United States Army, attaining the rank of Specialist 5 (SP5).

While stationed in Missouri during his military service, Lewis met the love of his life, Winifred. Following a courtship that spanned from Texas to Illinois, they were married in May 1964. Together they shared 50 wonderful years of marriage until Winnie’s passing in 2014. Their union was blessed with four children: Susan Christine, Deborah Eileen, Cynthia Kathleen, and David Michael.

Lewis graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a bachelor's degree of fine arts in art, launching a successful three-decade career spanning magazine publishing, graphic design, and computer-aided graphic arts. Much of that career was spent in the defense industry, with companies including Vought-LTV, General Dynamics, and Lockheed Martin, from which he retired in 2001.

Lewis pursued many interests throughout his life. He was a life-long learner who was passionate about personal computing, particularly Apple computers, amateur radio, woodworking, and the study and collection of gems and minerals. For more than 30 years, he was a familiar presence at Arlington’s annual Fourth of July Parade, assisting with communications coordination through the Arlington Amateur Radio Club.

Above all, Lewis was a devoted father and grandfather who loved spending time with his family. Civic-minded and intellectually curious, he enjoyed taking his children to local art museum exhibitions, club meetings, and Arlington Chamber of Commerce meetings, fostering in them an appreciation for learning, community involvement, and public service.

Lewis was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Winifred “Winnie” Hill; his parents, Lewis Calvin Hill, Sr. and Isabella Hill; and his brother, Wylie Hill.

He is survived by his brother, Pat & wife Sissie Hill, of Lake Worth; his daughters, Susan Criss Hill of Arlington, Deborah & husband Mitch Meissner of Clyde, Cindy & husband Tony Bearden of Weatherford; and his son, David & wife Rhonda Hill of Rhome. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren: Tori, Shirah, Lauren, Savannah, Noah, Joshua, Landry, Zachary, Jakob, Katie, Gideon, Caleb, Asher, Otto, and Koleman.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Following the interment, a Celebration of Life will be held at the Kathryn Wilemon Lake House Event Center in Arlington, Texas at 1-4 PM. Friends and family are invited to join in honoring Lewis's life and legacy through fellowship, remembrance, and shared stories.

Services for Winifred J. Hill will be 10:00 am Thursday, May 29th at Moore Funeral Home Chapel. Viewing and visitation will be held the hour prior to the service. Friends are invited to a time of refreshments and remembrance with the family following the service.

Winifred J. Hill passed from this life May 24, 2014. She was born October 29, 1937 in Des Plaines, Illinois to Paul Ronald Jenkins and Helen Marie Dunnom Jenkins. She married her husband of 50 years, Lewis C. Hill, Jr. May 23, 1964 in Des Plaines. Winifred was an adored wife, excellent mother and had a career as a registered nurse. Her career began with employment at Resurrection Hospital in Chicago, Illinois prior to her marriage. She relocated to Texas in 1964 when she and Lewis were married and continued her career as a nurse at Arlington Memorial Hospital and more than 16 years at DFW Medical Center in Grand Prairie, she also worked for several DFW nursing homes.

Mrs. Hill was preceded in death by her father and mother, two sisters; Katherine Ann and Helen Patricia Jenkins, one brother, Paul Will Jenkins, and one grandchild. Survivors include her husband Lewis C. Hill, Jr. of Arlington, four children; Susan Christine Hill of McKinney, Deborah Eileen Hill Meissner and husband Mitch of Fort Worth, Cynthia Kathleen Hill Bearden and husband Tony of Weatherford, David Michael Hill and wife Rhonda of Rhome, fourteen grandchildren and two sisters; her twin, Mary Agnes Jenkins King and husband Bill of California and Jean Jenkins Engel of Illinois and many nieces and nephews.
