Lewis Dean Eppes, born March 24, 1932, in Teague, Texas. He was an incredible man, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved God, his wife, and his family and would have done anything to protect and care for them. After graduating from Teague High School in 1950, he headed off to the big city of Dallas, Texas. He courted his first wife, Pauline Gordon and they married on February 3, 1951 in Dallas, Texas. They were happily married until her death on October 29, 1979.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and proudly served for 23 years as a Fire Investigator for the City of Dallas, Fire-Rescue Department until his retirement in 1986. He married his second wife, Mary Katherine Ross Chaffin on April 22, 1983 and they were happily married until his death on March 12, 2018. He and Mary were long time members of Fielder Road Baptist Church and Levis and Lace Square Dance Group. They loved to travel domestically and internationally.
Lewis never met a stranger, laughed a lot and always “let his light shine”. He was larger than life, with a warm presence and will be sorely missed. We are grateful for our LORD and Savior, who allowed him to enter the gates of heaven on March 12, 2018.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Pauline Gordon, parents, Lewis and Cora Eppes, brother, Eddie Eppes and sister, Eunice Cameron.
Lewis is survived by his wife of 35 years, Mary Katherine Ross Chaffin-Eppes of Mansfield, his sons, Mark Alan Chaffin (Mana) and Randy Eppes (Joan), grandsons, Christopher Michael Lee (Olesya), Zachary John Andrew Chaffin (Kyla), Adam Eppes (Kimberly), granddaughters, Sarah Eppes, Elizabeth Eppes, and Anna Eppes, great-grandchildren, Conner Chaffin, Alexandra Sarah Lee, Allison Katherine Lee, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, March 19, 2018 at Moore Funeral Home, 1219 N. Davis Drive, Arlington, Texas 76012. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Moore Memorial Gardens, Arlington, Texas.
