Mae Catherine was born Aug 3, 1927 in McAlester, OK to Charles A. Ray and Birtie Turner Ray. The family moved to Texas several years later, settling in west Texas in Sweetwater. Her father was a pharmacist and landowner, and her mother was a homemaker until Mae Catherine and her younger brother Benton were older. She graduated from Sweetwater High School and worked for the Sweetwater Reporter newspaper. She met Edward J. Libotte, from Annapolis, MD, in 1945 when he was training as a pilot at Sweetwater’s Avenger Field, a United States Army Air Forces training base of the AAF Flying Training Command. They were married 31 years, traveling for several of the early years until settling in Fort Worth. The family moved to Arlington in 1967 for Eddie’s job. He passed away in 1976. Later in her life, Mae Catherine worked at the University of Texas at Arlington helping to place medical students into medical schools – a job she loved – for she always had an interest in medicine and health care. She was an avid reader and always had several books going at the same time – only non-fiction. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother. Survivors include daughters, Kristy Leigh Libotte Keener and Sue Ann “Susie” Libotte, both of Arlington; three nieces and four great nieces.
