Marcus M. Lowthorp
February 20, 1932 – April 15, 2021
Marcus Merrow Lowthorp passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at his home in Mansfield, Texas. He was born February 20, 1932 to James & Viola Lowthorp in Devine, Texas. They soon moved to San Antonio, Texas where Marcus grew up and graduated from Brackenridge High School. He participated in ROTC, Shutterbug club, became a DeMolay and met the love of his life. After high school, he served in the National Guard while working various jobs.
He and Patsy Ray married in 1953 and in 1958, they moved to Arlington, Texas to attend Bible Baptist Seminary now known as Arlington Baptist University. He graduated in 1962 earning a Divinity Degree and served as a pastor and/or associate pastor in several Southern Baptist Churches, then in 1964 he became an Ancient Free & Accepted Mason.
Marcus worked for the Department of Health, Education and Welfare and when the Department of Education was separated, Marcus was selected to open the first office in Seattle, Washington. Soon afterward, he became Director of “the student financial aid program” to include Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, Alaska, Hawaii and Trust Territories of the United States and earned an Honorary Doctorate Degree. Marcus retired in 1991 and he and Pat became home missionaries, full time. Marcus is proceeded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Patsy, mother Viola, father James W, brothers James & Paul, and sister Ophelia.
Marcus and Pat are survived by their beloved family of three sons; Marcus Ray and wife Florence of Mansfield Texas, Michael James and wife Lucy of Grand Prairie Texas, Matthew Kyle and wife Stacey of Seattle Washington, including nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Dad’s wish was that memorial contributions be made to Central Baptist Church “Building Fund” P.O. Box 59 Mansfield, Texas, 76063 or to the Arlington Baptist University, Marcus M. Lowthorp Scholarship. 3001 W. Division St., Arlington, Texas, 76012.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, May 7, 2021 at Moore Funeral Home. The funeral service will take place at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Central Baptist Church, 700 N. Walnut Creek, Mansfield, Texas 76063. Interment will immediately follow in Moore Memorial Gardens, Arlington, Texas.
