Marjorie Maynord Cabe died peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, three days before her birthday of July 7 surrounded by family. The service will be Saturday, July 8 at 10 a.m. at Shepherd of Life Lutheran Church, 715 E. Lamar Blvd, Arlington, Texas 76001. Memorials can be made to the Memorial Fund of All Souls Episcopal Church and/or the Wellspring Project Fund.
Throughout her life, Marjorie was a fierce advocate and champion for those she regarded as unfairly discounted or disregarded. Born in Granite, Oklahoma, to Barlow D. Maynord and Thelma Bryan Maynord she was a true native daughter of Southwest Oklahoma. Marjorie graduated from high school in Midwest City, Oklahoma, and attended the University of Oklahoma where she earned three degrees, including her Doctorate in Educational Administration. She was the first woman in Oklahoma history to be appointed an Assistant Superintendent of Schools in Norman, Oklahoma.
A lifelong learner and dedicated educator, she taught in public schools in Scarsdale, New York; Norman, Oklahoma; and Los Angeles, California (Watts). Marjorie then served as the principal for St. Alban’s Episcopal School (Arlington). While living in Detroit she served as Director of Development for the largest center in Wayne County serving abused and neglected children. After returning to Fort Worth, she served two additional Episcopal schools as principal until the birth of her first grandchild – when she announced (for the third time) “I am retiring, and this time I mean it.”
Marjorie’s greatest gifts and most outstanding achievements were as a mother and grandmother. Her capacity for empathy and unconditional acceptance knew no boundaries. Adored by her children, grandchildren, and nieces she extended that same authentic acceptance and affirmation to her many friends. Marjorie was an integral part of the launch and life of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, which recently changed its name to All Souls Episcopal Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Christopher Charles Goins, and her sister and only sibling, Shirley Maynord Hall. Marjorie is survived by her husband of almost 45 years, Walt Cabe; daughters Caroline Goins and Elizabeth Goins Grubbs; her husband from a previous marriage, Robert Goins, and wife Juanitta Goins; nieces Katherine Ware and Laura Ware; grandchildren Mia Claire Grubbs, Max Anderson Grubbs, and Mason Brady Grubbs; and a host of friends and extended family.
Marjorie’s entire family specifically thanks the sustaining care from the two primary caregivers during her hospice experience – Lillie and Ty – whose dedication to serving Marjorie was essential and for which her family gives thanks.
A funeral service for Marjorie will be held Saturday, July 8, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Sheperd of Life Lutheran Church, 715 E Lamar Blvd, Arlington, TX 76011.
