Born on Valentine’s Day in Tyler, Texas, to Marion Ray and Grace Evelyn Teel, Marla embodied the love and kindness her birthday represented. Throughout her life, she shared that love generously with her family, friends, colleagues, and community.
Marla was a devoted wife to her husband, Eric Jakubisin, whom she married on October 10, 1992. For 34 years, Eric stood faithfully by her side through life’s joys and heartaches. Her greatest pride and joy were her three children, Justin, Colton, and Megan. She treasured watching them play sports, pursue their interests, and embrace all that life had to offer. Marla was an active volunteer at South Oaks Baptist Church and enthusiastically supported the many sports and activities in which her children participated.
Marla was also an exceptional cook, and her family, friends, and coworkers eagerly anticipated her homemade Christmas toffee, a special holiday gift that became a beloved tradition. Her thoughtfulness and generosity were reflected in the many ways she cared for others.
A graduate of Sulphur Springs High School, Marla excelled in varsity tennis, academics, and leadership activities. She demonstrated remarkable strength and determination after losing her father in a farm accident during her freshman year of high school.
Marla earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Education from East Texas A&M University in 1987 and a Master of Business Administration from Texas A&M University in 1989. She began her professional career in banking, working as a credit analyst, lender, and corporate trainer. Drawing on both her education and banking experience, she developed and delivered training programs designed to ensure lender compliance and maintain high standards of quality.
Although Marla built a successful career in banking, her love of teaching ultimately led her in a new direction. After spending time at home raising her young children, she became certified to teach English as a Second Language (ESL). She found great fulfillment in the classroom and was honored as Teacher of the Year at Kennedale’s RF Patterson Elementary School. Her dedication to her students and her love of teaching remained an important part of her life until her illness required her to retire.
Marla will be remembered for her loving heart, quiet strength, unwavering devotion to her family, generous spirit, and the many lives she touched through her faith, work, and friendship.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marion Ray and Grace Evelyn Teel, and her father-in-law, John Jakubisin.
She is survived by her loving husband, Eric Jakubisin of Arlington; her children, Justin Jakubisin of Abilene, and Colton Jakubisin and Megan Jakubisin of Arlington; her mother-in-law, Judy Jakubisin of Arlington; and her siblings, Mark Teel of Greenville, and Monty Teel and Tammy Teel Jones of Sulphur Springs. She also leaves behind extended family members and dear friends who will cherish her memory.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Keller Oaks Healthcare Center and Magnolia Hospice for their kindness, care, and support during Marla’s illness.
A visitation will be held at 9 am and celebration of life will be held on Friday, November 6, 2026 at 10:00am at Moore Funeral Home, located at 1219 N. Davis Drive, Arlington, TX 76012.
