Born Mary Helen Bell on September 13th, 1920 in Dallas, Texas to Arthur Bell and Lorena (Miller) Bell. She graduated from high school in Dallas in 1938. She married Jesse W. Johnston in June 1941 in Dallas, Texas. She retired from the LTV Aerospace Corp. in May 1979 after 25 years of service. She moved from Arlington to her vacation home in Rainbow, Texas in 1979, where she lived until 2012. She then moved to Anaheim Hills, California to be close to her son, Jake, after she had a heart attack.
She loved her property in Rainbow. Located on the Brazos River, it had a large lot with a dock, Pecan trees, and lots of green grass. She loved doing yard work and especially loved having grandchildren and great grandchildren come visit her. Her door was always open to family and friends. Everyone enjoyed fishing, swimming, and just floating down the river.
“Gee”. All of Mary's grandchildren and great grandchildren called her Gee. This was a nickname that her granddaughter Diane gave her when she was a toddler.
Mary was fond of her niece Linda (Bell) Brown who was her neighbor on the river. They would visit with each other often, go to lunch and dinners, and attend Dallas Cowboy games where she had season tickets for many years. She was very much a Cowboy fan and never missed watching their games.
Gone before her are her husband, Jesse W. Johnston and daughter, Jerry (Johnston) Ziebell. She is survived by her son, Jake Johnston, her granddaughter, Diane Heidt, and her grandsons, Don Heidt, Beau Johnston, Jon Paul, and Andrew Lawson and by her great grandchildren, Andrea Heidt, Logan Heidt, Andrew Ziebell, Margaux Paul, Sydney Paul, and Jeremy Paul
