Mary R. Martin passed peacefully, surrounded by her family on November 20th, 2019 in Arlington, TX. Mary was born in New Orleans, LA on October 3rd, 1925. She was the 6th of 7 children born to Mary and Bernard Haat. Mom was baptized at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on October 18th, 1925 and has faithfully served her Lord since that time. Mary was an original “Rosie the Riveter” during World War II. In her early years, she worked as a waitress at Gentilich’s restaurant, where she met our dad, the love of her life. On November 24th they would have been married 70 years. She was a dedicated mother to her 6 children and loved her 17 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Mom and dad were founding members of Christ the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Houston, TX where they attended mass for over 30 years. They were also active members of the 55 Plus group, with whom they traveled the world. Mom kept a wonderful home that displayed her talents in ceramic painting, embroidery, African Violets and cooking… we especially loved her fudge. Several of her grandchildren and great grandchildren have inherited her beautiful red hair. She will best be remembered for her virtues--the importance of hard work, faith and family. A memorial to honor her life is planned for this spring. Donations made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association will be appreciated.
