Mary Lou Shinnick, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on August 27, 1939, in South Dakota, Mary Lou lived a life defined by warmth, laughter, and an extraordinary gift for bringing people together.
Those who knew Mary Lou knew that a stranger was simply a friend she hadn't met yet. Her outgoing nature and genuine interest in people meant that wherever she went, she left lasting impressions and lifelong connections. She had a rare and beautiful ability to make anyone feel instantly welcomed and valued.
Mary Lou dedicated over 30 years to the HVAC industry, where her hard work and dependability earned the respect of colleagues and customers alike. She brought that same reliability and care to every corner of her life.
One of Mary Lou's most endearing qualities was her love of singing — performed always with full enthusiasm, considerable volume, a creative interpretation of the melody, and lyrics that were entirely her own. She never let the small details of pitch or the actual words get in the way of a good song, and her family would not have had it any other way. The sound of her singing was the sound of pure joy, and those who were lucky enough to hear it will carry a smile at the memory for the rest of their lives.
She is survived by her sister, Millie; her daughter Sandie and son-in-law Ted Williams; her daughter Debbie, son-in-law Tim Lairson, and grandchildren Emma, Abbie, and Connor; and her son Greg Shinnick, daughter-in-law Tricia, and grandchildren Ainsley and Declan.
Mary Lou was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed — but her spirit lives on in every friend she made, every life she touched, every family member she cherished, and yes, every song she ever joyfully mangled.
