Mary Elizabeth Wilson was born January 11, 1961, to Kenneth and Patricia Echelberger. Although born in North bend, Oregon she was less than a year old before moving to Dallas, Texas where she spent the next 61 years of her life. She may not have been born in Texas, but she got here as quick as she could.
From a young age Mary had strong passions for dance, swim, and being a friend to almost anyone she met. Mary graduated from Grand Prairie High School in 1979 and would continue as a proud Gopher alumnus for the rest of her life. After graduating high school, she went on to the University of North Texas receiving her bachelor’s degree in modern dance. Mary went on to become a dance teacher and eventually co-own her own dance studio. As a dancer – she never needed wings to fly.
Mary married the love of her life July 9, 1988. She and Tommy would be married for almost 35 years and brought two beautiful girls into their Grand Prairie home. Although Mary had always been a part of the Girl Scout community following in her mother’s footsteps – she made sure her girls had the same community. She was a girl scout leader for many years meeting some of her best friends, she was a lifeguard for the GSNETX teaching countless children to swim and saving more lives than even she could count. As her girls got older, she stayed close becoming a substitute teacher. Again, she taught, saved, and impacted more adolescent lives than she knew.
On April 10, 2023, Mary went to be with her parents in heaven. She will be terribly missed by all the communities she helped build but none more so than her family. She leaves behind her sister Adrienne and husband Bahman, her husband and protector Tommy, her daughter Rebecca and wife Darla, her daughter Sarah and husband Everardo. All memorial contributions can be made to the National Cancer Society.
A friends & family gathering for Mary will be held Saturday, April 29, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Moore Funeral Home, 1219 North Davis Drive, Arlington, TX 76012.
