Mattie Louise Rhoads Smith was born on June 22,1918 in Anadarko, Oklahoma to Stella O’Neill Rhoads and C. E. Rhoads. She passed away on February 28, 2018 at Williamsburg Village Nursing Home at the age of 99.
She married Orion James Frederick Smith in August,1938. They had one son, Orion Dwain Smith, who was born on April 5, 1941. She was a long time resident of Oak Cliff before moving to Duncanville to be close to her family. She worked for Southwestern Bell as an accounting clerk for 46 years before retiring in 1982.
She enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, and water skiing.
After she and Orion divorced, Dwain continued to be a devoted and loving son to her for over 57 years. When she was diagnosed with dementia and heart problems in 2014, Dwain cared for her until she passed away.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Orion James Frederick Smith, her father, C.E. Rhoads, mother, Stella Harber Rhoads, a brother, Wayne Rhoads and sister-in-law Frances Rhoads, and an aunt, Elizabeth Harber Huggins.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Dwain and Marilyn Smith, grandson Scott Smith and his wife Andrea, granddaughter, Jill Smith, two great grandchildren, Jude Michael Smith, and Nolan Scott Smith, and a nephew, Jimmy Rhoads and his wife Caroline, and sons James and Lawrence of Australia.
A graveside service for Mattie will be held Monday, March 5, 2018 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Moore Funeral Home, 1219 North Davis Drive, Arlington, TX 76012.
