Melva was born in Stamford in 1934 to the late David Grant Henson and Shirley Holtzclaw Henson Brumbalow.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Haskell Harwell Sr; her oldest son, Haskell Harwell Jr.; her parents; and her brother, Edmund Andrew Henson.
Survivors: Son, David Harwell and his wife, Myriam; daughter, Laurie Lynn Hodges and her husband, Jerry; granddaughters, Brook Estrada, Melva Lynn Harwell and Nicole Hodges; her two sisters; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws whom she all loved and cherished.
