I just learned of Mike's passing. My heartfelt condolences to the family. Mike was the first person I met when I moved to Arlington.  He was working concessions at Randol Mill Park and I was playing softball there. It was 1971. He was funny and kind and made me feel better about leaving my old school and friends behind and happy to meet new ones. 


I just looked up my old friends name and I was shocked to find his obituary. I had not talked to him since he moved to Rockport after what I thought was a successful transplant surgery. we were very close growing up and played together starting as early as when we were in diapers.  Our whole neighborhood growing up was my best memories because in those days it was a different era. I remember Cathy, Greg ,Stan, Sherry, Doug, and many more. Mike kept in touch with most of these childhood friends and even lived in the neighborhood  we grew up in. I can say at least I know where he is now and that being in Heaven with our Lord and Savior and reunited with his 1st born son Jerry who passed before him and the rest of his family up there with him. my condolences go out to his son Michael who he was so proud of and I am sorry I am just learning of this. one day when it`s my time I hope he will be there to greet me along with my family. Mike Self was someone I will never forget.  He knew how to lighten a grim situation and had that twinkle is in his eye when he'd give you a hard time. 

We will miss him.  I am deeply sorry for his passing.

I am so sorry to hear of Mike's passing.  He candidly called me, "gravedigger".  I am a funeral director, as well as an insurance agent, and was please to be his agent most recently.  Please accept mine and my family's condolences, as we will not be able to attend his services.  My own mother's health is failing, and I need to be with her.  May he rest in peace.

I knew The Self brothers growing up in Arlington. Mike was my brothers age (Van Weber) and Doug was in my class!  We all showed up to keg parties at Grapevine Lake, we had a good life .  I am saddened to hear of the loss of Mike.  My respect to the Self Family and Friends. One day at a time!

I first met  Mike in 1965 walking by his Mothers home on Pecan Park and Del Mar Ln. I had just started 3rd grade at Wimbish Elementary. He was walking out of his house and was heading to school. We started talking as we recognized each other from being in the same grade.
This started our friendship which lasted thru school and up till today.  My wife Jeri worked with him at PCA until he retired. 
Mike is gone but will never be forgotten as his Brother Doug and his Mother, who I lived across the street from for many years.

So many great memories ... from our High school years and through to present days ... the most precious that we will hold in our heart was the visits we had most recently.  You were always loved and admired for all things we shared - Thankful that you’re no longer suffering but going to miss you each and every day! Until we meet again ... give all those who’ve gone before us love and have joyous reunion of souls! Duane, Cheryl and the girls
