

The family will gather to celebrate her homegoing at 3:00 pm on Monday, December 12, at CrossPoint Church of Christ, Grand Prairie. Visitation: 3 to 6 pm Sunday at Moore Funeral Home. Interment: 12:00 pm Wednesday, December 14, in Genoa Central Cemetery, Arkansas.
Nelda was born in Texarkana, Arkansas on April 14, 1945 and graduated from Arkansas High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Ferrell Shelton, II, on March 26, 1960 just after graduation, and accompanied him as an Air Force wife for 3 years. The two moved to Texas where Nelda attended North Texas State University earning a bachelors and master degree in business. She loved education, so she joined the faculty at Tarrant County Community College (Tarrant Junior College at the time) as a professor of business education. In addition to teaching, Nelda served as the department chair and in numerous advisory positions, always striving to keep the curricula current with changing technology and to better serve the many students enrolling in business courses. She was the advisor for the student Business club, and led the students on trips to academic competitions. In her 52 years at Tarrant County Community College, she inspired thousands of young people to pursue higher education, complete their degree and pursue their dreams. Nelda also mentored numerous young faculty members, encouraging them to advance in their career field. She was a gifted writer, and co-authored numerous business education textbooks, keeping her students and TCCC courses abreast of emerging technology applications.
Nelda was a member of the National Business Educators Association, She had a passion for reading, decorated her home with her painting, and loved traveling. One of her particular joys was taking her family camping in their RV over the summer or just for short weekend outings. She loved to plant beautiful flowers in her front and back yard--roses, lantanas, and hydrangeas. Nelda was a fabulous southern cook and shared not only the recipes but the “how to do this” with young cooks.
Baptized a believer in our Lord Jesus at as a child, Nelda held strong to her faith even to her death. She was a member of Crosspoint Church for several years, active in the senior connect groups, bible study fellowship and supported many of the ministries.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ferrel, her parents, Jude and Thelma Miller, and her sister, Doris Scott.
Nelda is survived by her daughter Erin Shelton and grandchildren, Collin Stroner, Kaylen Lee, and Shelby Morgan.
In lieu of flowers, Nelda desired that donations be made to the Crosspoint Church Missions.
