10/5/1928-11/2/2020
A woman of honor, strength and dignity has ascended to her place with The Lord. Norma Lee Baker (who was also known as Honey to her many grandchildren) of Arlington, Texas passed away on the evening of November 2, 2020 just weeks after her 92nd birthday.
She was preceded in death by her Husband Robert DeWayne Baker and her two daughters Cynthia Lee Govlik and Deborah Dee Dixson and is survived by her sister Jean Box, five grandchildren and their spouses including Tina Walker and husband Garry, Rich Govlik and wife Bonnie, Marcy Geer, Ember Stalberger and husband Aaron as well as Jamie Dixson and wife Joy .
Norma’s death shall not be what defines her as it was her strength and faith that shined the brightest. A testament to her strength is the fact that she always had a move-on attitude and that would most certainly be her advice on this very day. One example of her living that belief is that the morning after the death of her youngest daughter who died on the day before Thanksgiving 2002, Norma arose early to cook Thanksgiving dinner for the rest of her family. That type of strength is rare and can only be found in The Lord. She bestowed that strength through example on each of her five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Norma was a poet, a fact that few knew but in her poetry she left many morsels of truth and inspiration for those that she would inevitably leave behind. She left one poem for this very day; the day in which her people and the world remember her life.
That poem may be found below.
My Guide
The Lord is my shepherd
He Keeps me in stride
And offers a place
Where I might abide
The beautiful pastures
That he has in store,
Are waiting there for me
To enjoy evermore.
All sorrow he’ll spare me
If I now but trust
All of my loved ones
The good and the just.
Will share all the glory
That God can afford
Everything’s possible unto The Lord
Why shouldn’t I love Him
He is the Light
That keeps me from straying
Into the night
Where He goes I’ll follow,
So I cannot fall.
I trust Him completely
For He is over all.
