Pantego – Norma Louise Runyan, 96, passed away on January 14, 2021 after a long & valiant battle with breast cancer & Alzheimer at her home surrounded by her loving family. She is now rejoicing with her beloved husband.
Funeral service: 2 p.m. Saturday, February 6, 2021, at Moore Funeral Home, 1219 North Davis, Arlington, TX. A visitation will begin one hour prior. Interment will take place in the Masonic Gardens at Moore Memorial Gardens (next to her husband), in Arlington, TX.
Norma was born on January 1, 1925 to Reuben and Marie Shryock in Kansas City, MO. She graduated from Raytown High School in 1942 and attended the University of Kansas City (UMKC) at Kansas City, MO.
Norma married her high school sweetheart, Vernon Runyan Sr, on December 15, 1944, who was serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Their marriage took them from Kansas City to Washington, Missouri, Rota Spain, back to Missouri, California, Hawaii, Munich Germany (where Norma received her Associates Degree from the University of Maryland), and then to Texas.
Norma will be remembered by all her friends from all the countries she traveled to for her love of family, cats, flowers, gardening, decorating and for all her delicious meals prepared from her hobby collection of over 300 cookbooks and 10,000 recipes. Upon her retirement from AAFES, her accomplishments were recognized by the presentation of the HQ AAFES Superior Civilian Award. She also was the American Military Girl Scout Coordinator for Southern Spain in the 1960’s, Norma worked with Cub Scouts in Hawaii, become a DeMolay Mother in Arlington, TX and volunteered many hours as one of the Pink Ladies at the Arlington Memorial Hospital.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Vernon Runyan Sr.
Survivors: Daughter, Lynn Runyan Lichtenstein of Arlington, TX; son, Vernon Runyan Jr of Pantego, TX, and his daughters, Jennifer Runyan of Washington DC, and Katie Runyan of Sacramento, CA; and son, Ronald Runyan & his wife, Silvana, and their sons, Phillip and Victor Runyan of Pantego TX.
