

Otis Lee Vannatta Jr., age 102, passed away on July 3, 2026, in Hurst, TX. He was born October 10, 1923, in Fort Worth, TX to Hope and Otis Vannatta Sr. Otis was raised in White Settlement, TX and graduated from Arlington Heights High School. He then went on to serve in the United States Coast Guard during WWII, joining only a few short days after the attack on Pearl Harbor.
Otis married Shirley Vannatta in 1962, and the couple had 4 children: all girls, Mary, Penny, Kim, and Deborah. He was a tool and die maker for Texas Instruments for several years.
In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, walking, church, and volunteering at the City of Hurst Police Department. He was also a member of the Hurst Masonic Lodge for over 50 years.
Otis will always be remembered for his kind and helpful nature, always willing to lend a helping hand.
Otis is preceded in death by his mother and father, Hope and Otis Vannatta Sr., his brothers John and Wallace Vannatta, and daughter Mary Vannatta.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 64 years, Shirley Vannatta, his daughters; Penny Carlson (Dan), Kim Vannatta, and Deborah Vannatta-Martin (Ty), his sister, Sandra Richardson, his grandchildren; Kyle Barry (Natalie), Allison Corley (Michael), Corey Barry, Bryan Moss (Cailey), Alyssa Neathawk (Joseph), and great grandchildren; Jordyn, Audrey, Alexander, Harper, Austen, Avery, and Emerson, and many nieces and nephews.
