Phyllis graduated from Thiel College in 1949 with a bachelor’s degree in biology. She went on to work as a laboratory technician, both in hospital settings and in a private doctor’s practice until her retirement.
On October 6, 1951, she married the love of her life, Forrest Genger. Together they raised three children and built a wonderful life filled with love and cherished memories. They shared 38 years of marriage until his passing in July, 1990.
Phyllis had many interests throughout her life including bird watching and growing flowers. However, she especially loved oil painting and enjoyed sharing that gift with her granddaughter, Lindsey, whom she taught to both draw and paint. She also played bridge for several decades with the same group of women, forming friendships that she held dear the rest of her life.
Phyllis was a woman of strong Christian faith and an active church member for as long as her health permitted. She found comfort and strength in her relationship with the Lord throughout her life.
The Lord blessed her with a loving family who meant the world to her. Throughout the years, she treasured the time spent talking with family on the phone, sharing stories, remembering special moments, and simply enjoying one another’s company. Those conversations brought her much happiness and created treasured moments for her family as well. Her family will remember her not only for the life she lived, but also for the love she gave and the lasting memories she leaves behind.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Forrest Genger; her son, John Genger; her daughter, Joyce Bush; and her granddaughter, Rachel Bush.
She is survived by her daughter, Julie (Jim) Blaylock; grandchildren: Laura (Caleb) Tiemeyer, Lindsey Blaylock, Luke Blaylock, Nicole (Frank) Duffy; and great-grandchildren: Kate Tiemeyer, Ava Duffy, Henry Duffy, Wes Duffy, Ruby Duffy and Jayden Baker.
Phyllis will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Good Days in her memory. Good Days provided financial assistance for her macular degeneration treatment for many years, and the family is grateful for the care and support they provided.
