Phyllis Brenda Onyejiaka

Phyllis Brenda Onyejiaka, 78, of Grand Prairie, Texas, passed away on January 20, 2023. She was born in Linden, Guyana on June 1, 1944. Phyllis left Guyana in her early 20’s to attend nursing school in the United Kingdom, where she began her nursing career in Women’s Health. She moved to the United States in the 1970’s where she trained in Critical Care and became an ICU nurse at Methodist Medical Center Dallas, where she worked for 40 years until she retired in 2013. She met her husband, John Onyejiaka in 1978 and they wed on April 4, 1979.

Phyllis was a member of the local Red Hat Society. She had a passion for gardening, living a healthy Lifestyle which included cooking, exercising regularly and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband John, her daughter Simone Garnett, her daughter Olachi Opara and son-in-law Kingsley Opara their children Miles and Maya, her daughter Ugochi Chilstrom and son-in-law Doug Chilstrom their children Naomi and Serena, her son Chijioke Onyejiaka, her brothers Hilton Garnett and Ulric Harry, her sisters Esme Harry, Yvonne Willis, Yvette Bryan, Jacqueline Lewis, Dorette Harry-Morris, Evelyn Reynolds, Joyce Harry and Sheila Harry along with many extended family members and friends who loved her dearly.

Committal services will occur Saturday, March 4, 2023 from 1:00 PM Moore Memorial Gardens, 1219 North Davis Drive, Arlington, TX 76012.
