Ramesh was a visionary. He was one of the first in his family to earn a master's degree in commerce. He began his career working in the Peace Corps, once met President John F. Kennedy and served in the U.S. Embassy in Tanzania. He immigrated to the United States in 1969 and lived in a home in Ardsley, N.Y., for 35 years. Thereafter, he relocated to be close to his grandchildren, first in New Jersey, then in Fort Worth. In Westchester County, N.Y., he started the first Indian Cultural Association, served as its first president and served many times over. He was employed for 30 years at Coldwater Seafood Corp.
Ramesh was a devoted family man and a friend of many. His children and grandchildren were always the light of his eyes. He had a passion for music and travel. He was able to master several instruments as diverse as tabla, harmonium and flute.
Survivors: His loving wife, Kumud of Fort Worth; sons, Dr. Rajesh Gandhi of Fort Worth and Ravi Gandhi of Newport Beach, Calif.; daughter-in-law, Swati Gandhi of Newport Beach, Calif.; grandchildren, Priya, Ronak, Serena and Mira; brothers and their spouses, Devendra and Bhadraben Gandhi of Houston, Anil and Chandrika Gandhi of London, Jitendra and Raksha Gandhi of London, Pravin and Vishaka Gandhi of Atlantic City, N.J., and Kishor and Jyoti Gandhi of Tunisia; and sisters and their spouses, Sarla and Jayanti Mehta of North Bergen, N.J., and Aruna and Kirit Shah of London.
