Randee Noel Crowder Dewey (aka “Nana”) was born December 30, 1945, in San Francisco, California as the only child to Eleanor (Ellie) Joan Norrick Crowder and William (Bill) Edward Crowder. She passed away on May 8, 2024, at the age of 78 in Cleburne. As a child, she traveled from post to post during William Crowder’s Navy career. She graduated from Blackford High School, San Jose, California in 1963. She lived in New York, NY working as a flight attendant for United Airlines before marrying the late Robert (Bob) Taylor Dewey of Scarsdale, New York, in 1967 and settling eventually in Arlington, Texas. She completed a Bachelor of Science in nursing from The University of Texas at Arlington in 1983.
Randee had a passion for nursing and providing care to others. She worked at John Peter Smith Hospital, the Arlington Handicapped Association as the Executive Director, Samaritan House, The Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services as a Quality Control Monitor and Investigator of nursing home complaints, and various positions as Director/ Assistant Director of Nursing at long-term care facilities before retirement. She also held many volunteer positions including facilitator of a brain injury support group and service on the board of home owner's associations
Randee cultivated and cherished the friendships she made wherever she lived, primarily in the Arlington and Fort Worth communities, and showed generosity and unconditional love to those with which she surrounded herself. She was compassionate towards all people and animals, fostering and owning several four-legged furry friends over the years. She was a caregiver to those in need and touched many lives in profound ways. She stated she lived her life with “no regrets” and was observed to always say “yes to life.”
Randee was preceded in death by her parents, Ellie and Bill Crowder, and husband, Bob Dewey.
Randee is survived by children, Robert Taylor (Tate) Dewey, Jr. and wife Julie Anne (Bentrum) Dewey of Arlington, Jennifer Norrick (Dewey) Mize and husband William (Drew) Andrew Mize of Cleburne, and grandchildren Eleanor (Ellie) Thompson Mize, Mallory (Mallie) Taylor Mize, and Joshua Boothe.
The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to Santa Fe Trails Assisted Living in Cleburne, Dr. David Gregorio and Texas Oncology Staff, Cleburne, Dr. Fred Bishop and staff, Arlington, and VITAS Hospice.
A memorial service to celebrate Randee’s life will be held at Moore Funeral Home, 1219 N. Davis Drive, Arlington, on Thursday, May 16 at 11:00 a.m. with a reception following.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Randee’s memory to St. Jude Hospital for Children, the ASPCA or another organization of your choosing.
