Retha Reginald “Reg” Martin II was born in Checotah, Oklahoma on July 25, 1933, moved to Lubbock, Texas in 1943, graduated from Lubbock High School in 1951 and from Texas Tech in 1955, where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He married Patricia Sprott on April 14, 1956, had a daughter and three sons, moved to Arlington, Texas in 1977, and passed away on January 15, 2020 at the age of 86.
Reg worked for his family’s business, The Dunlap Company, as an adolescent and for most of his adult life, starting as a delivery boy and rising to the position of Co-Chairman of the Board. When the company closed in 2007, and at the age of 74, he became a licensed Texas Real Estate Agent, and worked with Keller Williams in Arlington.
Reg served on committees and boards of directors of community, business and Christian organizations at various times throughout his life, including the Boy Scouts of America Troop 404 in Lubbock; The United Way in Lubbock and in Fort Worth; First National Bank of Fort Worth; Child Study Center; Edna Gladney Home; Happy Hill Farm; Fort Worth Christian Leadership Prayer Breakfast; and Texas Wesleyan University.
Reg’s passion was for Christian evangelism, serving for three years as associate staff with Campus Crusade for Christ in Lubbock, and later as a leader in Bible Study Fellowship, as a volunteer at Arlington Resale, supporting the Arlington Pregnancy Center, and as a bible study leader at Mission Arlington. He was a member of Arlington Presbyterian Church. His desire was to share the love of God through Jesus Christ to everyone he could, sharing his faith with hundreds over the course of the last 50 years.
Reg was preceded in death by his parents, Retha Reginald Martin and Ruth Koch Martin, by his sister, Callie Martin Chalk and by his brother, Louis Edward Martin II. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Patricia Sprott Martin, 4 children and their spouses, 15 grandchildren and 7 of their spouses, and 2 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws who loved him. We grieve our loss, but we rejoice in the knowledge that Reg is now in the presence of his Lord.
