Roberta Lee Carlton

She was born September 11, 1942 in San Diego, California the daughter and eldest of three children born of Lela L. and Robert A. Williksen. She married her high school sweetheart, Gerald Ray “Jerry” Carlton on April 2, 1960 and they filled the next 56 years with family and love.

She spent her early years after high school zipping around in her convertible Austin Healy and working as an executive assistant at the Globe Theater in San Diego-all while taking care of her young son and waiting for her loving husband to return home from the Army. She became a self-taught legal assistant for 15 years, and then reinvented herself at 40 by getting her real estate license and becoming recognized as one of the best still today. Always up for an adventure, she moved multiple times across many states including California, North Carolina, Colorado, and Texas. She had an indomitable spirit and approached every day with a renewed energy-nothing could stop her, not even breast cancer for which she continued to survive for over 16 years.

Roberta, often known to her friends and family as Bert or Bam Bam, had a vibrant smile that came from the inside and an infectious laugh that will never be forgotten. She was a trusted confidante and mentored many people through life’s ups and downs. If there was something you were struggling with, she was the one you would turn to. She was a fun loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend but becoming a grandmother became her favorite. Her love for her family was evident in the way she made a special effort to make each person feel special. She always said her compassion and grace was just a gift from the Lord whom she loved with all of her heart. She must have been one of His most prized gardeners for everyone she touched bloomed. She loved her golden retriever Maggie, macaroni and cheese, romantic comedies, a roaring fire, old churches, Christmas and her family trips to the beach.

Roberta is survived by her husband, Jerry Carlton and their two children and spouses; Gerald Carlton, Jr., Robyn (John) Freese; grandson Ryan Freese; brother Al Williksen of Liberty Lake, WA; five sisters-in-laws, six brothers-in-laws; and multiple loving cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Ann Sawitski of Wheeling, WV.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 17, 2016 from 4:00-6:00 PM at Moore Funeral Home, 1219 N. Davis Dr., Arlington, TX 76012. A funeral celebrating her life will be held the following day, Monday, April 18th at Pantego Bible Church, 8001 Anderson Boulevard, Fort Worth, TX 76120, (Eastchase exit off I-30) A reception immediately to follow service at the church.
