Ron “Papa” Mitchell was a caring husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. A man who was built on a foundation of warmth and laughter, who never met a stranger and demonstrated Christ’s love to all he encountered, was called home to be with Jesus at 80 years old on January 25th, 2025.
Ronald L. Mitchell was born in Weston, West Virginia on December 6, 1944, to Lawrence Rae Mitchell and Anna Virginia Mitchell (Clem). He married his wife Linda in 1964, and they started building their life and family together. They eventually relocated to Grand Prairie, Texas in 1985 to pursue a career opportunity for Ron. Ron finished his career at Coca Cola as the North Texas Logistics Manager. The simplest pleasures in life brought the greatest joy to Ron. He loved the color red, mowing his lawn on Thursdays to have it “weekend ready”, detailing the car on Saturdays to have it ready for Sunday morning, being everyone's favorite “Silverfox”, and visiting a good parking lot car show. He believed in the value of working hard but also enjoying the fruits of your labor.
Above all, Papa enjoyed spending time with his family. Although he valued all of his roles in life, husband, father, and friend, being a Papa was his most cherished achievement. From back-to-school trips, bologna dates, or cheering the loudest in the stands at any given sports match, Papa always showed up to support his family and was intentional about creating memories with his loved ones.
Ron continued to share his love and life in 2016 when he wed Eva Martin-Mitchell. They actively served others at Crossroads Christian Church where they developed many lifelong friendships. He will be remembered by his unmatched ability to crack a joke, his contagious laughter that could fill a room with smiles, and his unwavering love and support of his family.
Ron is preceded in death by his wife, Linda Mitchell (Tribble), parents, Lawrence and Anna Mitchell, grandson, Jonathan Matthew Flesher, and siblings Zita Mitchell, Patricia Mitchell, Joanne (Ken) Woolever, Emma Joseph, Rita (Rick) Myers, and Nancy (Hershel) Kidd.
