Known for his deep devotion to his family, his love of traveling, and his realizing the American Dream, Dr. Samir Cecil Wahby passed peacefully in his sleep in Southlake on April 2, 2025. Dr. Wahby was born in Port Said, Egypt on July 20, 1935, the eldest son of Cecil and Mary Wahby. Given his keen intellect, determination, and work ethic, he excelled academically and eventually earned a medical degree from Ain Shams University in Cairo. Although a practicing physician at the time, he left Egypt and immigrated to the United States in 1969 to pursue his dreams and realize his full potential. But his journey to the U.S. required that he redo his medical education while working menial jobs in Detroit.
On a brief trip back to Egypt, he met Mona Habashi and they were married on January 7, 1973, and enjoyed 52 years of faithful marriage. Sam and Mona welcomed their daughter, Sally, followed by Peter 18 months later.
Sam moved his family to Texas and eventually settled his family in Arlington, where he was a psychiatrist for over 40 years. He served as a Medical Director for several psychiatric hospitals throughout North Texas, was a Diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry, and earned countless professional accolades while maintaining a focus on patient-first care.
But Sam will be remembered most of all for his steadfast devotion to this family, his sense of humor, and his pride in his wife, his children and his five grandchildren (Ethan, Noah, MaryGrace, Christian, and Abigail). Sam is survived by his devoted wife, Mona; his daughter and son-in-law, Sally and J.J.; his son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Evette; grandchildren, Ethan, Noah, MaryGrace, Christian, and Abigail; and his brothers, Magdy and Tharwat.
Services will be held on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at 1:30pm at St. Mary’s Coptic Orthodox Church, 1110 John McCain Rd., Colleyville, Texas, 76034.
