

Shirley Ann Gomez of Arlington, passed away this past week at the age of 50 after a seven year battle with cancer. Shirely was an amazing kind-hearted and compassionate person and was surrounded by close friends and family her entire life. Shirley was born to Duane and Judith Smith in Lansing, Michigan on February 12, 1962. She moved to Texas just after her 18th birthday. She made her life here where she was married to her loving husband, Santos Gomez, for 23 years and raised a son. Mrs. Gomez enjoyed sewing, giving beautiful handmade gifts, volunteering at the Arlington Night Shelter, spending time with her family and friends. With her friends, neighbors, coworkers and at times complete strangers, Shirley was known for bringing people together to celebrate and get to konw one-another. Shirley Ann Gomez is survived by her husband, Santos Gomez; son, Aaron Gomez; step-daughters, Letecia Murray, Melba Walfford, Marisol Ivy and Michelle Moore; step-sons, Omar Gomez and Marcus Gomez; sisters, Sharon (John) Thon and Kristine Vernier; brother, Andrew (Amy) Smith; grandmother, Dorothy Goodman ; mother, Judith Baxter and husband Jan and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father Duane Smith. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Arlington Night Shelter in Arlington, Texas.
