Shirley was born April 22, 1931 in Fort Worth to Willis and Thelma Jackson. She graduated from Carter-Riverside High School in Fort Worth. In her early years at local race tracks, she watched over many drivers' children during races and took them under her wings. Shirley and the love of her life, Jimmy, crisscrossed the United States following Jimmy's and their son, James's, careers as professional race car drivers. Shirley was the rock of her family and managed her family's racing team. Shirley left an impression on many people's lives and directions. Her caring and compassionate nature along with her sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to know her.
Shirley was preceded in death by her son, James; daughter, Shirley Anne; and her husband of over 60 years, Jimmy.
The family would like to acknowledge all of the caregivers that helped Shirley along the way, especially the last two, Jackie Booe and Lisa Guinn. A special thank you to Earl Mallett and Anne Bishop for all their years of being there for both Jimmy and Shirley.
Survivors: granddaughters, Bryn Bettenhausen of San Francisco, CA, Taryn Bettenhausen of Indianapolis, IN; great-granddaughter and the apple of her eye, Kendyl Bettenhausen of Indianapolis, IN.
