Steven Craig Dorsey, lovingly known as “Papa D,” passed away on May 3, 2025, at the age of 66 in Arlington, Texas. He left this world as he lived in it—full of humor, heart, and a whole lot of love. He was at peace, comfortable and surrounded by loved ones as he walked into our Heavenly Father’s arms.
Steve was the kind of man who made everyone feel like family. With a legendary sense of humor and a larger-than-life personality, he brought joy wherever he went. Whether it was a quick joke, a perfectly cooked meal, or a spontaneous adventure, Steve had a way of turning the ordinary into something unforgettable.
He is survived by his devoted wife and partner-in-everything, Mari-Chris Dorsey “Mama D”; his proud parents, JoAnn and Buddy Haile; his children, Brianne Rodriguez, Errin Hugghins and husband Kyle, and Everett Dorsey and wife Ashley; and his beloved grandchildren—Peyton, Olivia, Charlotte, Lily, Hallie, and Barrett—who all adored their Papa D.
Steve spent many years as a car salesman before retiring as a self-employed contractor and founding Papa D’s Roofing. He was a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan, a golf enthusiast, a beach lover, a country and classic rock fan, and a man who never turned down a good concert or a cold drink—first Captain Morgan, then later in life went on to enjoy an Old Fashioned or seven. Breakfast was the most important meal of the day to him, and by golly, he could whip up a breakfast that would put any mom and pop diner to shame.
He loved being on the move as much as he could—traveling with Mama D, planning get-togethers, playing games with his friends, kids and grandkids, or just sitting outside soaking up the sunshine or sitting by a fire at night. More than anything, Steve loved his family fiercely and unconditionally. He was their biggest cheerleader, their teacher, and their rock.
Steve believed in living with laughter, loving without limits, and never sweating the small stuff. He often said, “Never start a fight, but don’t lose one either,” and reminded his kids to always keep smiling—even on the hard days.
A celebration of his unforgettable life will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025, at 7:00 PM at the Sheraton Hotel in Arlington, TX (1500 Convention Center Dr, Arlington, TX 76011).
Friends and loved ones are welcome to join in sharing stories, raising a glass, and remembering the man who made such a lasting impact on so many lives.
Papa D will be missed beyond words—but his laughter, love, and legacy will carry on in every one of us.
