Born in Youngstown, Ohio, Steve was the son of Stephen and Mary Galich. Steve was also the older, and more attractive brother, to Gary Galich. After graduating from Cardinal Mooney High School in 1966, he bravely served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, and later went on to own a series of successful businesses. A builder to his core, Steve found his niche in commercial construction, even starting a company, Certified Enterprises, alongside his wife. Business was often a family affair, with his wife, Joann, working at the helm as Steve pulled long hours, or even entire days, away from his family at a job site. A steady provider, he was, through and through. For a time, Steve had the opportunity to build alongside his son, Richard, as they worked nights on various build sites in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. While Richard might have shared his dad’s drive to build with his hands, Steve’s daughter, Marissa, shared her father’s passion for real estate. Marissa and Steve even shared a rental property project together, a labor of equal parts love and humor, to be sure.
Accomplished as he was in business and building, Steve would discover there was no greater title for him to achieve in his life, than Papa. Steve’s four grandchildren, Hayden, Kate, Bennett, and Alex, loved spending time with their Papa, enjoying his humor, his absolute aversion to the rules, and his extraordinary generosity. Only a Papa who truly loves you, can call you “a big hairy toe”, and get away with it. Papa’s grandkids are sure to remember him best for his larger-than-life fit of belly laughter they often heard while playing in his house.
Steve is also survived by his son-in-law, Jeff Hansen and his daughter-in-law, Jenn Galich. Additionally, he is survived by his dog, Rocko, and his sweet baby girl, Sloppy Joe (who is also a dog but more so, a secondary soulmate.)
The service is being held outdoors at Moore Funeral Home in Arlington on Tuesday, September 1st at 10:00 am. There is very limited seating available but there will be standing room.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Salvation Army or Apollo Support and Rescue.
