Virginia, was better known to all by her nickname, Vicky. She was a vibrant and energetic woman who was born in Oaxaca, Mexico and was raised in the beautiful resort town of Acapulco, Mexico. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acapulco
At a very young age, her vivacious charisma and hard work catapulted her into the role of Director of Public Relations for the Americana Hotels in Acapulco (El Presidente and Condesa del Mar). These were an extended hotel chain, owned at the time by American Airlines. During the '60's and '70's Acapulco was the Jet Set place to be and be seen. Vicky had no problem fitting in with the likes of celebrity movie stars, singers, political figures and such became a very well known and popular individual in the hotel industry. In those days, Acapulco hosted a yearly film festival and Vicky was right in the midst of all of it's preparations. As a young woman in a man-dominated world, these were her glory days.
In 1972 she married her American hotel colleague, Russell Thorn, and that took her into another exciting time of her life. She had the privilege of living in 4 countries and numerous US states, before settling down in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. She was a devoted and loving mother to her three daughters.
Vicky made her corporate America debut when she took a position working at Alcon Laboratories in Fort Worth. Again, her dedication and work ethic took her into an over 30+ year career retiring with the title of Int'l Customer Service Logistics Specialist Global Supply Chain. She always had a smile on her face and made numerous close friends that included a range of position holders from the CEO's to cafeteria personnel. Vicky always welcomed new people into her life. She was very instrumental in various projects that took her all over the US and Switzerland, where Alcon's international headquarters were located.
For fun, Vicky filled her spare time by singing in her church choir. She sang and danced in numerous musical plays produced by her church group. Vicky never shied away from a challenge, so for several years, she taught Command Spanish at Texas Christian University, in their continuing education department. This was also in affiliation with Alcon Laboratories. She managed an antique booth full of wonderful treasures, only she would ever find, in Arlington. She also loved spending memorable times with family and friends. Those memories we will all keep deep within our hearts. She is deeply missed.
