Dan was born in Linden, TX on October 9, 1940, and lived there for a short period of his early childhood years until his family moved to Grand Prairie, TX. His family grew up attending Calvary Baptist Church in Grand Prairie and as a young child, Dan came to know the Lord. He said, "I went forward because I didn't want to go to Hell." He loved the Lord and studying God's word. After graduation from Grand Prairie High School in 1959 Dan went to Bible Baptist Seminary and graduated with a Bachelor of Divinity in 1962, he then attended Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts.
Dan met the love of his life while attending Bob Jones University, Johnnie Mae Barbee in January of 1967. They were set up on a blind date to a basketball game, by Johnnie's roommate, Peggy. This started the romance between Dan and Johnnie Mae. Bob Jones University had a dating parlor, which was a large room with many couches, and this is where Dan and Johnnie would go to talk and get to know each other. The two married on June 15, 1968, at her parents’ home in Wingate North Carolina.
Throughout Dan's career spreading God's love and word he worked as a principal and teacher at Pompano Baptist Temple Christian School in Pompano Beach, FL from 1969 to 1973 where many young souls were saved and challenged. He and Johnnie were led back to Greenville, SC where he was a teacher at Tabernacle Christian School. As his faith and ministry was growing so was the growth of Christian Day Schools across the country. He felt led to return to Texas in 1976 and he and Johnnie began teaching at Temple Christian School in Fort Worth, TX. His greatest joy was teaching Bible and having Chapel on Fridays. He enjoyed teaching the students many songs, choruses and challenging them from God's Word using many object lessons. In the early 1980’s, Dan left the Christian Day School movement and began working for the Post Office where he worked for 18 years.
Later in life, Dan picked up the sport of running at the age of 55. He was an avid runner, running races locally, mainly 5k's and one marathon. He eventually slowed down in his 70's because of knee issues, he became a walker.
Dan loved teaching the gospel and singing gospel songs, he was inspired to write songs, and sometimes on the spot singing to whomever let him including his wife, nurses, friends and students. Dan is in heaven now with his Precious Lord singing the Hallelujah chorus. He ran a great race and finished his course.
He is preceded in death by his father, Wilbern Jeremiah Wood, mother, Ora Jane Burleson Wood, and brother, John Douglas Wood.
Dan is survived by his wife, Johnnie Mae Wood; sister, Joan Thomas; brothers, George Wood and wife Jeana, Tim Wood and wife Carrie; many nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
