William "Trent" Mize, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and avid golfer, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2026, in Arlington, Texas, at the age of 75. He succumbed to complications related to Parkinson’s disease.
Trent was born on March 3, 1951, in Meridian, Texas, to his parents, the late R.V. and Doris Mize. He spent much of his youth in Grand Prairie, Texas, where he discovered his life’s true passion: golf. A natural athlete, Trent played college golf at Dallas Baptist University and went on to spend years competing on mini-tours in pursuit of becoming a PGA professional. He shared his love and knowledge of the game as a club professional at several courses, most notably Lake Arlington Golf Course in Arlington, Texas, as well as multiple courses in the Detroit area.
In his early 40s, Trent transitioned careers, following in his father’s footsteps by entering the insurance industry. Leveraging the countless deep relationships he built on the golf course, he founded and ran a highly successful insurance agency. Beyond golf, Trent was a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan who passed his love for sports down to his sons.
On August 28, 1993, Trent married the love of his life, Sondra Irons Mize. The couple moved to Weatherford, Texas, where they built a beautiful life together until her passing on April 18, 2023. Deeply rooted in their faith and community, they were active members of Northside Baptist Church in Weatherford. Trent brought joy to the congregation by singing in the choir, while Sondra dedicated her time to various community-focused women's programs. Together, they shared a massive heart for animals—they owned more pets than their family can list and truly never met a stray they wouldn’t take in.
Trent is survived by his two sons, Troy Mize (wife Melissa) and Drew Mize (wife Sarah); his cherished grandson and namesake, William Mize; his sister, Renee Gray; his brother, Ricky Mize; stepchildren Todd Jewell and Stephanie Jewell; and step-grandson, Grayson Jewell. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Sondra.
The family extends their deepest, most heartfelt thanks to the staff at Isle at Watercrest Assisted Living for providing Trent with nearly three years of exceptional, fantastic care. They also wish to express their profound gratitude to Concho Hearts Hospice, with special thanks to his long-term nurse, Grace, and to Dusty, whose guidance and support were an invaluable comfort near the end.
