William Frank Shelton

Born on January 15, 1934, in Frisco, Texas, Bill attended Prosper High School before joining the Army. In 1958, he married the love of his life, Sharon, and they shared 64 beautiful years together in Grand Prairie.

Bill spent the majority of his working years at Fieldcrest Cannon, retiring in 1996. A passionate gardener, he would grow a large garden every summer. He would then share the fruits of his labor with his neighbors and friends. His true refuge, however, was Possum Kingdom Lake, where weekends and retirement years were spent fishing and creating cherished family memories. He also enjoyed traveling with Sharon, including memorable trips to Ireland, Switzerland, and yearly getaways to Las Vegas and Shreveport. Bill was also a huge Nascar fan, and he also cherished time with Sharon watching Wheel of Fortune.

A man who loved God quietly and deeply, Bill’s truck or Suburban was always filled with cassettes of gospel hymns and country music. He and Sharon were longtime active members of First Presbyterian Church in Grand Prairie, where they faithfully delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. Above all, Bill was devoted to his family. He cared tenderly for Sharon until her passing five years ago. He took great joy in his children and grandchildren, proudly attending each of the girls’ weddings — including Paula’s, on June 6. He often spoke of the girls’ beauty and successes, and the incredible joy his great-grandson Reece brought him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Essie Shelton; his brother, J.M. Shelton; and his beloved wife, Sharon.

He is survived by his brother, Billy Jack Shelton and wife Louise; son, Dale Shelton and wife Wendy; daughter, Cindy Nolan and husband Andrew; grandchildren Tori Pontley and husband Evan, Alli Tate and husband Collin, Paula Lewis and husband Landon; and great-grandson Reece Pontley.

A graveside service will be held at Moore Memorial Gardens, Arlington, TX at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, August 7th.

Bill will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. A man whose quiet faith, strong work ethic, and simple joys like his garden, the lake, gospel music, and family, will leave a deep and lasting impact on all who knew him. He will be truly missed.
