Born February 21, 1926 to William Forrest Stephens and Minnie Rebecca (nee Still) in Fort Worth, Texas, William F. Stephens (Bill) grew up on the north side of town when it was mostly filled with cattle and stockyards.
Growing up, he made friendships with boys who would all later enlist in military service during WW II. He graduated in 1942 from North Side High School and joined the US Coast Guard where he served on active duty for 4 years as a Radioman Second Class aboard the USS Tahoma in the north Atlantic during World War II and again in 1951 during the first part of the Korean War.
After his military service, Bill attended technical school in Fort Wayne, Indiana where he met and married the love of his life, Betty Jane (nee Dice) in Fulton, Indiana. They moved to Fort Worth in 1947 and began their family and careers. Both Betty and Bill worked for many years in the aerospace industry in engineering and technical writing in the DFW area, with Bill retiring in 1991 from General Dynamics/Fort Worth, TX. They were active members for Sagamore Hill Baptist Church for many years forming many church and work friends over their 66 years of marriage. They made their home in the Handley/Meadowbrook area of east Fort Worth.
Betty predeceased Bill in May 2014, and Bill went Home to be with the Lord on October 1, 2021 at 95 years old after a full and productive life. He is survived by two daughters, Shari and Cindy; one son, Bill Jr.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
