Zella was born September 20, 1935 in Crossville, Tennessee to Riley and Noba Norris. She married the love of her life, Herbert Brown, and together they raised four sons. They spent 66 happy years together until his passing in 2019.

Zella had a career with American Airlines as a reservationist and retired as an Executive Secretary. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling, sewing, playing the piano, and watching musicals. But her favorite pastime was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Zella was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be greatly missed. To know her was to love her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Riley and Noba Norris; husband, Herbert Brown; and brother, Herk Norris.

Zella is survived by her four sons and their spouses, Charles, David (Martha), Larry (Lynn), Michael (Joni); her grandchildren, Jonathan (Rizalind), David (Abigail), Matthew (Rebekah), Austin (Sherie), James (Katie), Jacob (Hannah), Grant (Danielle), Taylor, Connor, Catherine, and Callie; her great-grandchildren, Caleb, Jeni, Daniel, Sophia, Keziah, Johannah, Olivia, Christianna, Charlotte, Nolan, Gabriel, Mila, Victoria, Evelyn; and her dear sister-in-law Judy Norris along with numerous extended family and friends.

Zella will be greatly missed. She always looked stunning with her beautiful smile and jewelry. We loved to give her compliments and hugs either before or after church. Zella and Herb made the cutest couple and we miss them both. It was a pleasure to be a part of their life. God bless the Brown family. You're in our thoughts and prayers.

What a special lady...we would share airline reservationists stories in the old days! She and her sweet Herb were such special sweethearts...to see them at the Irving church services was always so special... and while that will be greatly missed by so many, we know they are in a much better place. Love and blessings to their sweet family who we love & treasure in our hearts! Love, Boyd & Marilu King

Zella truly was a lady! Soft spoken. ALWAYS smiling. She was always pleased to see everyone. Her example of coming to services even when it was difficult is inspirational. She and Herb will be greatly missed! What a blessing for all of her family and also church family! Love to all

So many wonderful memories of our time on Elmore Road. We have lost touch over the years. I guess miles can do that, but they can’t erase all the happy times. Our thoughts and love are with you all

Darlene and I will always remember Zella’s great smile and friendly hello’s every Sunday before, during, and after services at Westside. Herb was always at her side . She made everyone feel special and happy to see her. I would joke with her often and her response was almost always “oh Bud you know ...”
We know she will be missed by not only her huge family but by all who knew her!
Our prayers and thoughts are with you all right now.
Bud and Darlene

For years my g-daughter Hailey & I visited Herb & Zella in their home/rehabs. Depending when Halloween fell, I'd take Hailey by their home, her first stop, she'd score goodies. Hailey approved rehabs with cookies, she quickly told the front desk if they were out/didn't have the right kind. When Zella was in a Southlake rehab, no cookies, Hailey simply said, "That's messed up!" Parkwood/Bedford had cookies, Hailey "approved" when Zella was there. We'd visit, her whole face smiled, her eyes would light up. Hailey loved seeing/talking to Zella at church. My g-mother passed away 10 years ago, prior to passing she said she wanted me to have both her mink coats. Not being a fur person, I didn't wear them. Zella often wore furs. When I told Zella about the coats, she smiled & said something like, "Honey you should wear them, she wanted you to have/enjoy them." Texas weather permitting, I do, because of Zella. I'm reminded of my g-mother when I wear them, it also put a smile on Zella's face. Now the coats will remind me of them both. Just prior to C19 lockdown, we saw her. Hailey's looking at Zella's photo albums, Zella told Hailey about the pics. Zella gave Hailey a doll from her childhood, it has blonde hair. Hailey named her Zella. I took a picture of the two Zella's & Hailey. After the lockdown we'd leave cards in the "residence box" by the front door of Elmcroft. We delivered a copy of the picture for Zella, she sent us two thank you notes. The doll, picture & notes are in Hailey's room, along with a note that Hailey asked me to read to Zella the day before she passed. Zella loved everyone & everyone loved her. She always had a sweet smile. What a blessing she and her entire family are, what a wonderful legacy she and Herb have left all of us! Our hearts are full, so full of all the memories and love you shared with us! Hailey and Lisa Baxley
