She was born in Derby, CT on October 3, 1930 the daughter of the late Raymond H. and Anna D. (Cramp) Sharkey. Adrienne grew up in Ansonia, CT attending local schools and graduating from Ansonia High School.
While studying for a nursing degree at Yale/New Haven Hospital, Adrienne met her husband, David F. Usher. They married in 1951 and were together until his death in 1993.
She worked as a nurse in several facilities in both CT and ME. She especially enjoyed her time at Yale University working in departments of Anthropology and Plant Physiology where she made many good friends from all over the globe. Here in Maine people might remember her from her 11 years behind the desk at the Lewiston Public Library. She had a life-long interest in history and loved to read and travel.
Adrienne is survived by two daughters, Jan Wilkey and Elizabeth Usher, both residing in Auburn. She also leaves two grandchildren, Jeremy Usher and his wife Merideth of Limestone, ME and Ren Wilkey Laliberte and her husband William of Wiscasset, ME as well as four great grandchildren, James, Max, Amelia and David, two brothers, Roy S. Sharkey of Port Charlotte, FL and Father Philip Sharkey of Southbury, CT and several nieces and nephews.
Known for her feistiness and sense of humor by family and friends, co-workers and care-givers … and any who crossed her … Adrienne will be missed by many and remembered by all.
