Lewiston- Ann Geiger died in Lewiston, ME on January 30, 2014 the day after her 92nd birthday. Anna Marie Hueber was born in Newark, New Jersey on January 29, 1922 to Henry and Anna (née Krack) Hueber. She graduated from Beaver College in 1944 and taught in Newark elementary schools until she married Ray Geiger, Philom on September 25, 1948. The family moved to Lewiston with the move of Geiger Bros., the family business, in 1955. Ann was a self-effacing but strong partner to Ray, raising 5 children and helping him edit his beloved Farmers’ Almanac. She was scrupulously honest and fiercely independent, proud that she had no debts and was never a burden to anyone. In the deepest, fullest sense she was a good woman, someone who lived her Catholic faith every day. She gave tirelessly and quietly to others, while seeking little for herself. (Frankly if she was still in charge, she would have preferred to slip away quietly without this obituary being published.) Her husband’s phrase “my Sainted wife” fit her perfectly, and now after 20 years, they are back together with him having greeted her at the “pearly gates.” She was curious, smart, and engaged until the very end. And at the end she exuded the warmth and grace which she bore her entire life. Her final gift was teaching us how to die with dignity. Ann is survived by her children Gene and Peter (Lewiston), Barbara Geiger-Green (Silver Spring, MD), K.C. (Auburn), Mike (Yarmouth), daughters-in-law Lana, Lynne, and Karen Geiger, son-in-law Frank Green, sister-in-law Sister Eugene Marie Geiger (Baltimore, MD), and her grandchildren Jeff, David, Ben, Becky, Taylor, and Maddie Geiger and Erica, Alexa, and K.C. Green. You are invited to offer condolences and pay tribute to Ann's life by visiting her guest book at www.thefortingroupauburn.com
