Bertrand Gilbert

1936 - 2010

Auburn - Bertrand Gilbert, age 74, a resident of South Main St. in Mechanic Falls, passed away Thursday morning August 12th at The Hospice House with family at his side. He was born in Notre Dame Des Pins, Canada January 6, 1936, a son of late Mathias and Alice (Poulin) Gilbert. Bert was educated in Canadian schools and moved to the United States in 1953. He worked 30 years at Koss Shoe until his retirement and was a member of St. Louis Church in Auburn. Bert enjoyed cooking, he played the piano and loved music and was an avid fan of ice hockey. He was a loving, fun and hardworking son, brother and uncle who will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He leaves his four brothers and two sisters Richard Gilbert and wife Lucille of South Paris, Julien Gilbert of Mechanic Falls, with whom he lived, Yvon Gilbert and wife Frances of Mechanic Falls, Claudette Mailhot and husband Richard of Auburn, Michael Gilbert and wife Linda of Bethel and Francine Gilbert of Canada; his nieces and nephews Linda Bernier and husband Peter, Godchild Anna Gilbert, Amanda Snow and husband Christopher, Stephane Rousseau, Maxime Rousseau, Scott Mailhot and wife Tina Surh, and Steven Mailhot and wife Michele Kenney; Grandnieces Libby Bernier and Delphine Mailhot and grandnephews Alex Bernier and Julian Mailhot. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Austin and the entire staff at The Hospice House for the dedicated and professional comfort and care Bert received while there.
