TURNER: It is with great sadness that we announce that Catherine (Capen) Gauthier, age 36, of Turner passed away suddenly on January 31st, 2019 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Catherine was born in Beaufort, South Carolina on July 2, 1982 a daughter of John and Elizabeth “Beth” (Orford) Capen. At a young age she moved to Maine and spent the majority of her childhood here. She graduated from Leavitt Area High School in 2000, and spent her life in the towns of Leeds and Turner. She was well recognized from her jobs at Animal Emergency Clinic of Mid Maine, Central Maine Power, and Winthrop Veterinary Hospital. She had the most welcoming personality and a genuine concern for both humans and pets. She was a beautiful soul with a contagious smile and energy; she would light up any room by simply walking into it. She was the person to call if you needed any help or just a shoulder to lean on. She loved her children above all else and was immensely proud of their accomplishments. She was adventurous and artistic, a loving mother, sister, daughter and friend. All who knew her know there are no words to describe how much of an impact she made on this world. Her family will miss the little things the most. We will miss the excitement of our yearly Chicken Casserole and the surprise pets brought home to give a second chance. We will miss the excitement of Bingo Mondays and glass figurines. Musicals will never be the same without her lovely singing, nor will long road trips. There is a very large void that is now in the hearts of her family.

Loved ones that cleared the path for Catherine were her grandparents Betty and Edward Orford, John “Sonny” Capen, and her beloved pets. She is survived by her husband, Josh Gauthier; children Hannah Elizabeth Gauthier, Jack Edward Gauthier, Hadley Quinn Gauthier, and step-daughters’ Ava and Isabelle DeMars. She also leaves behind her parents, Elizabeth Capen and John Capen III, of Leeds; her sister, Kristen Capen of St. Paul, Minnesota; her brother and his family, John and Amanda Capen of Greene; her grandmother Joyce Capen of Leeds; soul-sister Becky Hinkley of Monmouth; and numerous other friends and loved ones.

Visiting hours will be held at Fortin\Auburn on Thursday, February 7th from 5pm-8pm. A Celebration of her life will take place on Friday February 8, 2019 at 11am also at the funeral home.

A donation fund is being formed in remembrance of Catherine at the Animal Emergency Clinic of Mid Maine called “Funds From Above by Catherine.” The family encourages people to donate to this fund in lieu of flowers, to continue the compassion and hope that Catherine brought to her work place. Donations can be mailed to 37 Strawberry Avenue, Lewiston ME 04282 or called in during business hours. Catherine you were not only a great friend to me but a great friend to everyone you met. I will miss your contagious smile and our early morning conversations when I was wide awake chatting your ear off and you not so much. You would never tell me to be quiet Barb it’s to early to be talking so much, well maybe in you head. You would smile. You were a second mother to Myah and I am very grateful for all the times you helped with her.
Catherine you will be missed by so many. My love goes out to your family and friends. I love you Catherine. To be continued...

They say things happen for a reason... I still can’t figure out the reason for this. You had a smile that could light up the room and such a vibrant love for life, family and friends. You will be forever missed. Fly with the Angels and watch over all of us. I love you 🧚‍♂️❤️

I was blessed to come to know Catherine through friends when I was looking for childcare. She welcomed my son Jake into her home and took exceptional care of him. I was always amazed at the variety of outings she would take the kids on and how effortless she made it look. She was always good at comforting him ( and me!) on days when drop off was hard. I will always treasure the art projects he made with her including a special handprint Christmas ornament that she put the finishing touches on herself in the evening on her own time long after the kids were gone. These are now a reminder of Catherine and the wonderful person she was in addition to a keepsake of my son’s childhood. My deepest sympathy and prayers go out to Josh, their kids, her parents and siblings, and all of her friends and family.

Our family is ever grateful for the love that Catherine shared with our grandson, Ezekiel. The care he received from you since he was a tiny baby helped shape him into the loving soon to be six year old. We never had to worry about his safety while he was in your care. You loved him like he was part of your own family. You will be deeply missed. We will be comforted by all the wonderful memories that you have given our family of Ezekiel's time spent under your loving care. Thank you for sharing your love with our family !

I am so sad to hear about your passing Catherine. I remember being in 9th and 10th grade with you and sharing multiple classes together at Leavitt High School and becoming extremely close friends with you. I spent almost a whole summer at your house, taking the canoe out on the water and tipping it in the cold weather, walking for miles through the woods to discover new things, sneaking out of your bedroom at night to sit on the roof and watch the stars, pretending that I liked rats when your family had a pet rat......so many memories and laughter with you. We lost touch through Senior year in high school because I moved, but we reconnected when I was 18 and worked at Landry's in Greene. I remember bringing out bags of meat for the dogs in the back of your car to eat before you decided to be a Vet Tech. You were an amazing person. You made me laugh so hard and were one of my closest friends when we were younger. I'm so sorry for your family's loss. People like you shouldn't be taken early.

My deepest sympathies to the Capen family, her husband, Josh, and especially the beautiful children, whom I am extremely heartbroken for. May you guys find comfort in the happy memories you have. Catherine will be greatly missed. Catherine definitely had a beautiful soul and infectious smile, it just is not fair that the good ones are taken much too soon. I will miss our occasional conversations due to my ridiculous pet questions, that she has always been able to help me with! And I will never forget her being the first person to comfort me when I ended up at the emergency vet with my cat who needed to be put down. RIP Catherine.

Catherine was such a beautiful soul. I always enjoyed chatting when we would run into each other. I will never forget the time our dog Damion was hit by a car and my husband brought him to one of the Vet offices she worked at. He didn't have a very good experience. Catherine stopped by our house when she got out of work to check on Damion. She looked him over and said, "I'll be right back." She returned with medication and antibiotics for him. I don't know if Damion would have made it without his angel Catherine. Rest peacefully Catherine, you will be missed beyond words. <3

Capen-Gautheir Families, our sincere condolences on Catherine's passing.
This certainly leaves a huge whole in the hearts of you all and all who loved
and had the pleasure of knowing her. She truly was an amazing and special person. I loved working with her at CMP, always a beautiful smile and her laugh well... was the best. Special memory was the day we were at Winthrop Vets to sadly help our 14 year old Niki Dog cross Rainbow Bridge. Her face was the first I saw after the passing and she came over and gave us all a hug.
I literally could not speak, but we hugged each other very tight. She will truly be missed. Hold your memories near and dear and know she is in your heart and soul forever. With love, Sandra, Dennis and Darby Rose
