Born in 1932 in Lewiston, Connie was a devoted and active member of her community. She graduated from Lewiston High School in 1950 and pursued her passion for caring for others by attending St. Mary's General Hospital School of Nursing, becoming a Registered Nurse in 1953.
Committed to lifelong learning, she continued her education with courses at the University of Maine, specialized in surgical nursing, became a Certified Operating Room Nurse and Operating Room Instructor. She served in this role for over 30 years, making a profound impact on her colleagues and patients. Connie was a dedicated member of the Maine State Nurses Association and the Operating Room Nurses Association throughout her professional career.
Connie and her husband, Maurice, who predeceased her in 2006, raised their three children—Dan, Cathy, and Pam—in Lewiston at their home on Martin Drive. Balancing her career and family, she worked night shifts and in the Medical Records Department at St. Mary’s to provide flexibility in those early years while caring for her young children. When she went back to work full time, she joined the operating room where she stayed until her retirement. Her dedication to both her profession and her loved ones was unwavering.
Following her retirement from St. Mary’s in 1995, Connie and Maurice enjoyed spending winters in Clearwater, Florida, and summers in Lewiston, Maine. She was an extremely talented knitter, and her beautiful sweaters, hats, and other creations were sought after by family and friends for decades. Connie and a close group of friends had been meeting to play cards every week for over 30 years and continued to do so until the last few months of her life.
Connie’s kindness, compassion, and gentle spirit touched countless lives. She was deeply loved and will be remembered for her selfless devotion to her family, friends, and the many patients she cared for over the years.
She is survived by her sister, Madeline Cote and brother-in-law, Lionel Cote; her children, Daniel and Susan Begin, Catherine Begin-Foley and Sean Foley, and Pamela Boudreau Kemp and Alex Kemp, and her grandchildren: Priscilla Moriuchi (and Bret Moriuchi), Patrick Begin (and Jillian Begin), Michelle Obenour (and Kyle Obenour), Kelly Carlin (and Taylor Carlin), James Boudreau (and Carrie Davison), Keenan Foley and Rory Foley; and five great-grandchildren, who all cherished her kind, loving spirit and caring ways.
Connie was everyone’s steadying focus. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered with love.
