David Christie Gardner, 77, of Lewiston, passed Sunday, September 6, 2020, at the Androscoggin Hospice House, following a long battle with cancer. He was born in Westbrook, December 3, 1942, the son of Ralph and Eleanor Christie Gardner. He graduated from Edward Little High School in 1961. Following graduation, he joined the Army, serving in Viet Nam. His first marriage was to Sandra Fox and later to Andrea Lane. David was employed at Pioneer Plastics for several years and later was a mail carrier for the U. S. Postal Service for more than 20 years.
He was a dedicated reader and was known to have read between periods of hockey games he attended in Lewiston. He loved sports, both as a participant playing baseball and softball for local teams and as a spectator, following all the Boston professional sports teams.
He is survived by his daughters, Tracey Marquis (Jeffrey) of Auburn & Kate Lane of Fryeburg; sons, Scott Gardner (Sue) of Freeport & James of Livermore; brother Robert Gardner (Sheila) of Auburn; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; as well as close friends Steve, Paul, Nancy and Heather, and Man’s best friend, Muffin.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his former wife Sandra Goodwin.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society of Lewiston or the SPCA. Military funeral at gravesite to be announced.
