

AUBURN: Dawn (Hazel) Hakala, 84, formerly of 80 Manley Road, Auburn, Maine, died Sunday, October 26, 2014, with her children by her side, after a valiant struggle with a long illness. Dawn was born in Gardiner, Maine on May 17th, 1930, a daughter of the late Edward Payson Weston and Lottie Mae (Foster) Weston. Dawn was the quintessential post World War II woman. She was an outstanding homemaker, devoted wife and mother, and a passionate patriot. She was always learning, always interested in the world around her, an avid reader, and never afraid to voice her opinions. The depth of her love for family, friends, and country will be missed. She is survived by her three children and their spouses, James and Paula Hakala of South Paris, Pamela and Wallace Seymour of Purcellville, VA, and Amy and Tim Dolan of Medway, MA; two sisters, Mrs. Bonnie Hayes of Manchester and Mrs Shirley Hanley of Randolph; 10 grandchildren, Kevin Hakala, Nichole Poisson, Rachel Seymour, Jessica Seymour, Jake Seymour, Ian Wallingford, Beth Randall, Amy Case, and Johannah and Charles Dolan; several great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other loved ones. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Carl Hakala; a sister, Irene Wing of Bangor; a brother, Arthur “Buddy” Weston, also of Bangor; a daughter-in-law Arlene Hakala of Auburn, ME and a granddaughter , Linnea Dolan. We would like to thank the numerous medical professionals and health care workers who cared for Dawn, especially in recent months. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday Oct. 30 from 10-12pm at Fortin\Auburn followed by a Liturgy of the Word Service that will be celebrated at 12pm also at the funeral home. Committal prayers will follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park in Auburn.
