

Poland-Donald C. Murphy Sr. 73, of Poland died Wednesday April 25, 2012 at his home, in the loving arms of his wife Coral. He was born in Lewiston on March 29, 1939 a son of the late John and Frances (Small) Murphy. He was educated in local schools and graduated from Edward Little High School class of 1957. He then went on to proudly serve his country in the US Air Force. Donald married the love of his life Coral Field on May 6, 1960 and together they raised their three children.
Donald worked for Stone & Irish Auto body during his high school years, then went on to work at H.P. Hood for 37 years, starting as a home delivery driver and then worked in the transportation department until he retired in 1999. Shortly after retiring he started working as a courtesy driver for Lee Auto. He also worked as Chief Pit Steward at Oxford Plains Speedway for many years. He attended East Auburn Baptist Church. He enjoyed following all the New England sports teams; he also enjoyed playing cribbage, jigsaw puzzles, wood working and the outdoors. He also took great pride in his pool and enjoyed having family and friends over for parties. His greatest enjoyment in life was his grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with them and following them in sports and school functions. Donald was a very hard working man, he was also very courageous, honest, had a positive attitude, a great sense of humor and a very strong hand shake. He leaves his wife of 52 years Coral Murphy of Poland, two sons Donald Murphy Jr. and his wife Renee of Warwick RI and J. Patrick Murphy of Poland, a daughter Melissa Foster and her husband Stephen of Gray, and seven grandchildren.
