

AUBURN: Edward Charles Beliauskas Baylis of Lewiston, died peacefully in his sleep on March 17 at Clover Manor where he resided for several years. He was born to Charles Peter and Bernice (Placzankis) Baylis on February 4, 1927. He graduated in 1944 from Lewiston High School and attended one year of college at Northeastern University in Boston. He was drafted into the Army and was in transit to Japan when the surrender was announced. He served as a Supply Sergeant in Japan during the occupation. After his discharge from the Army, he returned to Maine and completed his Bachelor’s degree at the University of Maine, where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity, graduating in 1951. Upon graduation, he returned to Lewiston where he married Muriel St. Pierre in 1952. Together, they raised five daughters. They were married until her death in 2007. Ed was a stockbroker for Townsend, Dabney & Tyson; Dominick & Dominick and Advest, Inc. He was proud of his Lithuanian heritage and was a member of the Bartholomew Society of Lewiston, the American Legion and the Elks Club for many years. He was also an avid Red Sox baseball fan and a dedicated follower of all UMO sports. He enjoyed his annual winter trips to Florida and summer vacations to Bar Harbor with Muriel. He is survived by five daughters: Susan Hanson (Roderick) of Saco, Christine Savignano (Philip) of Auburn, Carol Baylis of Lewiston, Cathleen Schwartz (Richard) of Carmel, IN, and Cynthia Snow (Fred) of Manchester. He is also survived by nine grandchildren Ryan Poisson, Margaret (Savignano) Morris, Sean Savignano, Catherine (Baker) Schwartz, Richard Schwartz III, Elizabeth (Kreeger) Schwartz, Patrick Schwartz, Anna Snow and Nicholas Snow, and five great grandchildren. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, his brother James and his half-sister Bernice Kalasky. Ed was a proud father, grandfather and great grandfather. Visiting hours will be held at Fortin\Auburn on Saturday March 21 from 11am to 1pm followed by a Liturgy of the Word at 1:30pm also at the funeral home. Interment will take place in the spring at Mt.
