Flint, TX - Mr. Edward G. Cooper, age 80, of Turner, Maine and Flint, TX, passed away Thursday evening January 17th at East Texas Hospice with family at his side. He was born in Auburn on April 26, 1938, a son of Robert M and May E Williams Cooper. He was educated in local schools and remained a lifelong resident of this community. Ed was a Military Veteran having served his country in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne until his Honorable Discharge. On 2 August, 1958, he married the former Lillian Fisher and together they settled in Auburn to raise their family. Lillian passed away in 1999. Ed worked many years as a long-distance truck driver and later worked in law enforcement at Androscoggin County and Texas Dept. of Criminal Justice until his retirement. Among his favorite enjoyments were motorcycling, snowmobiling and drives from Maine to Texas and back. He was a loving, devoted and hard-working husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.
Ed leaves behind his 4 children Edward Cooper Jr of Lewiston, ME, Scott Cooper and wife Michelle of Flint, TX, Butch Cooper and wife Terri of Turner, ME and Alice Cooper of Turner, ME; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one sister Christina Gauthier of Dayton, OH; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Lillian, and 2 brothers Al and Andy.
Visiting hours will take place Sat. 6-8 pm at The Fortin Group Funeral Home in Auburn. A graveside service with military honors will take place in the Spring at Gracelawn Memorial Park.
