Elizabeth "Betty" Morrell
December 16, 1935 – November 23, 2018
Lewiston- Elizabeth “Betty” Morrell passed away November 23, 2018. Betty was born December 16, 1935 in Magog, PQ, Canada to Odilon “Joseph” and Regina Gauvin. She grew up attending Quebec primary schools, before moving to Lewiston, ME in 1947. She became a United States citizen April 8, 1954. Betty worked as a top stitcher for decades at Fancy Stitches and Knapp Shoe. On July 1, 1967 she married the love of her life Noel Morrell and gave birth to their daughter Maureen November 16, 1971. Betty and her husband would attend many events and dances together throughout their years, he was a Marine Corps Veteran and she was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary. She loved gathering with her family in her home, playing cards, as well as attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and watching the Bruins play on T.V. She was a member of the Gauvin Reunion Association and enjoyed traveling, especially up to Canada. Betty was known for her big heart always putting others before herself. She was a lifelong member of the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul Church and watched Mass at home on television. Betty is survived by daughter Maureen Withee and son-in-law Jason Withee and their children Nicholas and Samantha Withee; nieces and nephews John and Jeanine Thompson of Pennsylvania, Diane and Bob Schiffbauer of Ohio, Michael and Kim Thompson of Ohio, Kathy and Scott Ferguson of Wisconsin, Sylvia Thompson of California, and Francine and Brian Lee of West Virginia. Betty is also survived by two very special people in her life an honorary grandson Thomas Gilbert and honorary son Steven Withee. Betty was predeceased by her parents Odilon and Regina Gauvin; her husband Noel Morrell; and her siblings Robert Gauvin and Jeanine Thompson.
Visitation will be held 6-8pm Thursday, November 29, 2018 at the Fortin Group Funeral Home, 217 Turner St, Auburn ME. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul Upper Church Friday, November 30, 2018 at 11am. A Burial at St. Peters Cemetery will follow.
