

Georgette M. Fox of Farmington passed away peacefully in Portland on August 7th after a long period of declining health. She was born in Lewiston August 1, 1940 the daughter of Laureat and Imelda Rancourt. She lost her father at a young age and went to boarding school weekdays at the Marcotte Home in Lewiston while her mother worked to support the family. She had fond memories of growing up with the Sisters. She went to high school for two years at St. Dom’s and graduated from Lewiston High with the class of 1958. Georgette worked for International Candy and FX Marcotte Furniture after school. She would spend a lot of time at the Rollerdrome in Auburn where she met Ronald E. “Foxy” Fox. They married in 1963 and together they had a daughter Kelly. She moved to Poland in 1976 with her daughter after she divorced and started working at Central Maine Charter and Century 21 Guilmette Realty as secretary and bookkeeper. She moved to Lewiston in 1983 and then to Farmington in 1995 to be closer to her family and worked at Orchard Park and The Pierce House doing housekeeping until she retired in 2007. She had a sharp wit and enjoyed reading, crosswords, comedy TV, loving her many cats throughout the years, spending time at the ocean, fried clams at the Chickadee, and was very proud of her French-Canadian history and ability to speak French. Georgette is survived by her daughter Kelly (Fox) Gray and her husband Scott of Chesterville, granddaughters Megan Gray, Erin Gray and her husband Kevin Lind, a special great grandson Christopher Ryan Smith of Chesterville, cousin Doris Violette, friendly neighbor Marcia Mattor, and kitty companion ‘Minounne.’ She was predeceased by her parents, godmother Marguerite Chaloux and infant daughter Julianna Fox.
Committal will be at St. Peters Cemetery in Lewiston but at Georgette’s request will be private. Donations may be made in Georgette’s name to the Franklin County Animal Shelter, 550 Industry Rd, Farmington, ME 04938.
