Auburn, ME - Mitzi passed away peacefully on November 2, 2023, at Clover Manor in Auburn. She was born in Madison, ME. on February 8, 1932, to Julia Brauza Smith and Kenneth R. Smith and later moved to Auburn where she attended Auburn schools, graduating from Edward Little High School in 1950. She furthered her education in business at North Shore Community College in Beverly Ma., attaining high honors and later at Los Altos Foothill College in California.
In 1962, she married the love of her life, Chester G. Lob. In the late 60’s they moved to Springfield, NJ, then to Danvers MA where they lived for many years. In the early 80’s they moved to Menlo Park, CA. and then on Chet’s retirement, to Lincoln, CA. During their residence in Danvers, they raised their daughter Robin, made many trips to visit family in ME and later purchased a small lake home in Harrison, ME. After Chet’s passing in 2017, Mitzi moved back to Auburn to be with her family.
Mitzi was an amazing woman! She loved to cook (at the gourmet level) and entertain family, friends and Chet’s clients and colleagues. Mitzi also spent many days every month cooking Pro Bono for large groups of people such as the Allied Arts Guild in Menlo Park, CA., and other charitable organizations. She published 3 cookbooks and took cooking classes from well-known chefs around the U.S. She was happiest in the kitchen where she learned to cook at an early age with her grandmother Pearl Smith (“Grammy Pearl”). She loved to play bridge with her friends every Friday in Lincoln Ca. where she claimed she would win more often than not. She was incredibly creative, always seemed to know what everyone was thinking, and always looked after everyone both in person and from afar. She was the backbone of the family.
She traveled the world on many business and pleasure trips with Chet and best friends George and Lisa Caryotakis and others. Even though she was miles away from family, she always kept in touch by phone and special-occasion cards. She taught us many lessons in etiquette and in life, especially reminding us to wash our hands before we sat at the table to eat and which fork to use when and mostly how to be gracious and kind.
Mitzi leaves behind a sister Betty Lugner of Auburn, a son Clifford Loeb and wife Robin of Florida, a daughter Robin Williams and husband Steven of Harrison, ME., grandsons Chase and wife Carol Ann, Ryan and Fiancé Abbey, granddaughter Logan Morales and husband Steve, and two great granddaughters along with many nieces and nephews. She leaves best friends Lisa Caryotakis, Beverly Heath, sister-in-law Connie Smith. She goes to join those deceased before her husband Dr. Chester Lob - mother Maryette Smith, father Kenneth Smith, and brother Lawrence Smith.
Mitzi’s family would like to extend our appreciation to the Clover Manor staff for Mitzi’s exceptional care - Rita, Alana, Alison, Rich, Lisa, Cathy, Nita, Kenzie, Alexis, and others. A special thank you to Androscoggin Home Health Hospice and to Marguerite and Laura - We could not have done it without your kindness and guidance.
It is Mitzi’s request that we have no services at this time. There will be a graveside celebration of life for Mitzi and Chet, announcement to be made for the spring of ’24.
Forever in my heart
I love you a bushel and a peck
And a hug around the neck
A barrel and a heap
And I’m talking in my sleep …
About you!
Your loving niece Dee-Dee
