Greg wouldn't be surprised at the time it's taken me to share my thoughts.... He always razzed me for not  being on time. 
Greg  was lovable  for many, many  reasons. The  most obvious attribute was his sincere interest in people.
Encountering Greg, planned or by chance, always involved an enthusiastic handshake and him asking "What's up?" --He truly wanted to know. If a story was to be shared, he would tilt his head, narrow his gaze and listen intently. If the news was positive his face would lighten up.  If humor was involved he'd slap his thigh and ask more questions. If the content of the conversation was  something unfortunate , he maintained the same intensity of focus however his face would drop. His genuine sympathy  was obvious. He followed  up by doing anything possible to make things better. 
I had the good fortune of spending a few hours with Greg three  weeks ago. We did a little bit of work at Shawn's  new business property. (I believe  Sean would back up my statement that indeed-- little work was done.  Greg was not the one slowing the process.) Aside from a couple recollections of  past adventures, the majority of our  conversation surrounded recent events.   Greg  described his current circumstances with genuine joy.  His love for Marcie, Greg Jr,  Callie , Shawn and their families was obvious. One of many moments he shared was the thrill of watching his 3 year old grandson skate. He finished by saying, " I know it's not saying much, but Teddy's a much better skater than I ever was. "
As I try to come to terms with losing  a close friend, I have a degree of  solace knowing Greg succeeded in what matters most.  
He was loved, he was needed,  and happy.  
I already miss him and will more and more over time.   Ray T

Words fail to express our deep sorrow for your loss.  We hope the many happy memories bring you comfort at this time.  Greg was such a special person that no words are really adequate.  He brought pleasure to everyone he met and will be sadly missed.  Many happy memories one day will replace all the grief.  Those loving memories will ease your loss and bring you comfort. Steve and I are so sorry for this tragic loss.  Greg was a special person and throughout the years we saw how much Bill and my mother Marge loved spending time with him. Greg had the unique ability to make everyone he came into contact with seem like a life long friend.  I had the opportunity to work with him at Agren when he decided to switch careers at 59 years old. He worked 7 days a week learning the new job and of course became one of the stores most successful salesmen. It seemed like at least half the customers coming into the store had a Greg Hird story. Truly a memorable and successful life lived by a man taken way too soon.  Nancy and my hearts go out to Marcie and their beautiful family.

My sincere condolences to Marci and the whole Hird family.  My heart broke for all of you when I heard the news of Greg’s passing. 
I went to school with both Marci and Greg and have nothing but fond memories…such caring and loving human beings. 
I pray that God gives you strength and comforts you in this devastating loss.

We are brokenhearted at the loss of Greg.  He was a kind and upbeat person.  Ray said whenever the guys at the gym would sit around complaining about their jobs, lives, etc.  Greg would just smile because he was so happy  with his life.

We had so many good times! Hanging out with families, Thursday afternoon golf games with you, myself, Micky, and Mark. So many laughs!  Easter brunch at Cathi's condo then our house with the kids, hot tubs and having Shawn doing snow angels. So many fun times. 
Although we lost touch the last few years, still always felt close with you guys.

Dear Marcie and family,

I'm so sorry for your loss. I remember Greg and the whole Hird family being so nice and kind in my years when I worked as a waitress at the Chick-A-Dee in Turner years ago.  And just last year my husband Dennis purchased an appliance from Greg at Agren's and said he'd had a nice time chatting with Greg. 

We hope the whole Hird family takes much comfort in the love and joy Greg brought to your lives.

I always knew of the Hird’s growing up in Auburn but never really knew Greg and Marcie until my parents moved into their retirement home next door to the Hird’s on Woodlawn Avenue. The neighbors on Woodlawn are a supportive bunch. As my father’s Parkinson’s disease progressed Greg gave me both he and Marcie’s cell phone numbers in case my parents ever needed anything. And when my father passed away a few months ago, Greg was one of the first to give me a big hug and offer words of encouragement. I will miss waving to Greg on Woodlawn and will miss chatting with him at the Y as he takes a break between sets on the tricep Cybex machine. Sending a big hug to Hird family during this heartbreaking time.

We have so many fond memories of Greg (Hirdball.) Such a great athlete and friend to so many.  Probably one of the hardest hitting football players I ever played with.  He really loved Marcie and his family deeply.  Well known in the L/A region as a hard worker and very friendly.  I cannot  phantom that he is gone, but I hear he knew the Lord so this is not goodbye forever, but we will see you in paradise brother.  Maybe we can pick up a game of football with our new bodies?  Blessings to the Hird family.  Your husband, dad, PaPa is loved immensely by so many.

I will eternally be connected to Greg as he was the recipient of my late brother’s award in 1976.  He was a proud, grateful and deserved winner. He embodied everything that the award was all about.  I know he is likely talking baseball with my brother right now.  A special person and always a class act!

Fortunately, I will be unable to attend Wednesday service. I want to send my deepest condolences to the entire Hird  family especially Marci with this tragic event. Greg was one of those humans who I knew from a very young age that was always smiling happy and made you feel good whenever you ran into him  he will be missed greatly, and the world has one less kind person in it today. Rest in peace, my friend.

I knew Greg since we were 11 years old. We played together on Perryville Drug. He was a great friend to me at that time. We continued to be teammates through high school in football and baseball.  Greg was selfless.  In our American Legion days Greg usually drove for our away games We had some of the greatest times on those days. We lost touch as we got older but I will always remember the kindness he always showed my mom after my dad passed and mom and I would go eat at the Chikadee. Mom's eyes would light up when he would come over and talk to her.
Greg will always be a bright light in the many lives he touched. Mine included. Rest in Peace old friend.

I feel so lucky to have had such a kind neighbor. “Mr Greg” is what my kids lovingly call him. Every time I saw Greg he was smiling. Sometimes it was a quick hello and wave, sometimes a walk with the kids down the road, or hours of watching the kids jump on the trampoline and swing on the swings in the backyard. I’ll never forget when Greg and Marcie brought my family food after I had my son. I was so thankful. I’m heartbroken for his family and the unbearable hurt they must be feeling. My family and I will miss Mr Greg so much. 💔
