

LEWISTON- It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Gregory Lee Hird Sr, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished Papa who unexpectedly went to heaven on January 28th, 2025. Greg was born on February 17th, 1961, in Portland, ME to William B Hird and Nancy Whitten.
He married the love of his life, Marcie in 1981, and together they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter and unwavering support for one another. Greg was a steadfast partner, always prioritizing his family and demonstrating what it meant to be a devoted husband.
As a father, Greg was a guiding light to his three children: Gregory, Callie and Shawn. He instilled in them the values of kindness, hard work and integrity. Whether it was coaching baseball, attending cheering competitions or watching hockey games, Greg was always there. His children grew up knowing they could rely on him for anything, a testament to his endless dedication.
In his role as grandfather, or “Papa” as his grandchildren affectionately called him, Greg shined even brighter. He took great joy in sharing stories, playing games, and creating lasting memories with his seven grandchildren. His playful spirit and gentle nature made him a beloved figure in their lives, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
Greg graduated from Edward Little High School in 1979 and was an accomplished athlete and captain of football, skiing and baseball. Greg went on to graduate from the University of Maine in Orono. For 40+ years he was the friendly face of the Chickadee Restaurant in Turner, alongside his brother and father. The last four years he took his infectious personality to Agren appliance, where his coworkers became family.
Greg is survived by his beloved wife Marcie of Auburn, ME; his son Gregory, his wife Meghan and their two children Pearson and Parker of Lewiston, ME; his daughter Callie, her husband Will and their three children Olivia, Hadleigh and Dylan of Voorhees, NJ; his son Shawn, his wife Amanda and their two children Theodore and Millicent of Buckfield, ME; his brother Billy and wife Lisa of Lewiston, ME; his sister Darcy and husband Dan of Sackett Harbor, NY; his sister Linda and husband John of Leigh High, FL; also, many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Greg was predeceased by his mother, Nancy Whitten and his father William Hird.
Funeral services honoring Gregory’s life will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at 3:00 PM at East Auburn Baptist Church, 560 Park Avenue in Auburn. The services will be live streamed at https://boxcast.tv/view/greg-hird-memorial-service-ewkigyg886bttkaeqsnn .
At the request of the family there will not be any visitation.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to East Auburn Baptist Church, Auburn or Auburn/Lewiston YMCA.
