

She was born on March 24, 1936 in Auburn, Maine and was the youngest daughter of Thomas and Gladys Pitman Elwell of Auburn, Maine.
She attended Auburn schools and graduated from Edward Little High School in 1954.
On September 3, 1954, she married Charles Clifford, Jr. at West Auburn Congregational Church and settled at the Clifford homestead in Minot, Maine.
She was very active at Minot Center Congregational Church and together she and Charlie maintained the Minot Center Hill Cemetery working side by side for nearly forty years. No one was ever surprised to find the pair deeply involved in a home improvement project, gardening or a community project. She was known for being an excellent gardener, seamstress, quilter and knitter.
She was honored by the Town of Minot, Maine as an outstanding citizen in 2015 and the Annual Town Report was dedicated to her. She was also a recipient of a Certificate of Recognition from the Spirit of American Foundation. She is an honorary member of the Minot Moonshiners Snowmobile Club and served on many Town committees. She was known for always being ready and willing to organize a fundraiser for anyone in need.
She joined the grange as a teen and held a 60-year membership to Minot Center Grange. She and Charlie also actively participated at the State and National level.
Over the years she worked as a part-time bookkeeper or secretary for several businesses, drove school bus for the Town of Minot, and worked at the Superintendent of Schools office while raising her two girls.
She lost Charlie on February 9, 2007, but is survived by her daughters Cathy Laplante (Marc) of Minot and Jane Doody of Bangor, her four grandchildren, Anna Smith (lee) of Mechanic Falls, Kris Doody of Bangor, Jessica Mosher (Matt) of Turner, Lauren Laplante (Missy) of Randolph and her four great-grandchildren Alexa and Rylee Smith and Luke and Lilah Mosher.
The family expresses their sincere thanks to all the staff in Clover Manor, Dublin unit and Andwell Hospice for their care and kindness during her stay.

Visitation for Helen will be held on Tuesday, February 18th from 3PM to 5PM at The Fortin & Pinette Group Funeral Home in Auburn, with a Funeral Service to follow at 5PM.
